The Omani Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday evening that Rome, the capital of Italy, will be the venue for the second round of Iran-US talks.
“The aim of these talks is to make further progress towards reaching a fair, binding, and sustainable agreement,” the Omani Foreign Ministry stated in its announcement.
“Oman is pleased to facilitate and mediate this meeting in Rome, which was selected for logistical reasons,” the Omani diplomatic service added. “We also extend our gratitude to the Italian government for its invaluable assistance in preparing for this important meeting.”
According to the statement, the talks are scheduled to take place on April 19 (Saturday).
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi noted that “Oman is hosting indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington,” emphasizing that Oman is responsible for selecting the venue for these discussions.
Speaking to Press TV on Wednesday after a meeting with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in Tehran, Araghchi stated: “We are still awaiting the decision from our Omani colleagues and their counterpart in Oman to inform us where the next round of talks will be held.”
