New York judge orders Trump to appear in the court

US President-elect summoned to court in ‘Right to Silence’ case

A US judge has ordered President-elect Donald Trump to appear in court on January 10, just ten days before he assumes office. This case centers around his controversial dealings with adult film actress Stormy Daniels and the issues surrounding her silence.

Judge Juan Merchand made it clear that Trump can choose to attend the court session either in person or via video call. This hearing will determine his sentence.

While the potential sentence could be as long as four years in prison, Judge Merchand assured that the President-elect would not actually serve time behind bars. According to reports from ABC News, it seems likely that Trump will receive a ‘non-parole’ order, which would mean he wouldn’t face prison time, fines, or any parole conditions.

In the meantime, Trump’s legal team is looking to block the January 10 sentencing, planning to appeal to the New York Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Trump, who has faced 34 charges to which he has pleaded not guilty, has seen an outpouring of responses from his team. A spokesperson described the judge’s ruling as an “attack on presidential immunity,” highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding these proceedings. If Trump is ultimately not convicted, Judge Merchand has indicated he may delay sentencing until after Trump’s presidency has concluded, keeping the focus on what’s next for the President-elect.
