Macron Calls for Sanctions on Israel

The French president has called for a tougher European stance against the Zionist regime if the situation in the Gaza Strip does not improve quickly, and for sanctions against the occupying regime.

According to NTV, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for a stronger European approach if the conditions in Gaza do not improve promptly.

In this regard, Macron stated: “This means imposing sanctions.” He added, “And yes, we must toughen our stance because it is necessary today, but I still hope that the Zionist regime will change its approach, and that we will ultimately find a humanitarian solution.”

The French president also urged the European Union to cease practices that demand respect for human rights, asserting that, in his opinion, this does not currently apply to Israel.

More than a week ago, most EU countries decided to review their cooperation agreements with Israel due to the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip. They pointed to Israel’s weeks-long blockade of aid to the Palestinian territories. Article 2 of the EU-Israel agreement states that relations between the parties are based on respect for human rights and democratic principles.

France, along with Saudi Arabia, will co-chair an international conference on a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel in mid-June. The conference aims to establish an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Macron, without specifying whether France would recognize a Palestinian state, said that the creation of a Palestinian state under certain conditions was not only a moral obligation but also a political necessity.

He also mentioned that the release of hostages held by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, its demilitarization, and the movement’s non-participation in a Palestinian state are conditions for progress.
