The U.S. president confirmed that American personnel will withdraw from the “dangerous Middle East.”
Earlier, a U.S. official stated that the number of staff at the American embassy in Iraq would be reduced for security reasons, with personnel being relocated to Bahrain and Kuwait.
Early Thursday morning, in response to a question about the withdrawal of U.S. personnel from West Asia, Trump said, “They are leaving because it might be a dangerous place. We have told them to leave. We’ll see what happens.”
According to a report by AFP, Trump then pointed to Iran and once again claimed, “They can’t have nuclear weapons, it’s very simple. We won’t allow it.”
Tehran and Washington have so far held five rounds of indirect negotiations in Muscat and Rome, with the sixth round scheduled to take place on Sunday.
