Qatar participated in the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in Washington today, in a deal facilitated by the United States.
Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, attended the event as the country’s representative. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), he welcomed the agreement and praised both nations for their commitment to peaceful dialogue.
Al Khulaifi noted Qatar’s role in supporting negotiations, including hosting a trilateral meeting in Doha on March 18, 2025, between Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi. He also commended the U.S. for its efforts in finalizing the deal.
The agreement builds on mediation by the African Union and follows a joint summit of East African and Southern African leaders in Tanzania earlier this year. Qatar reaffirmed its support for regional and international efforts to ensure lasting peace in the Great Lakes region.
