Qatar to Launch First Technical Secondary School for Girls in Al Shamal

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) has announced the upcoming establishment of the Qatar Technical Secondary School for Girls – Al Shamal, set to open its doors in the 2025-2026 academic year. The new institution marks a major step in expanding technical and vocational education opportunities for female students in the northern region.

According to the Ministry, the initiative is designed to prepare a new generation of skilled national talent equipped to meet the evolving needs of Qatar’s labour market. It reflects the Ministry’s strategic focus on applied learning as a critical component of student development.

The school will feature a balanced curriculum that integrates academic subjects with hands-on training. Students will be able to specialize in two main tracks: Information Technology and Laboratory Technician Training, ensuring they graduate with both practical skills and theoretical knowledge.

In its first year, the school will accept up to 40 students in Grade 10. Registration is now open through the MOEHE’s “Maaref” portal, specifically for Grade 10 applicants. The selection process will follow Ministry regulations, with admission priority given to Qatari students, followed by daughters of Qatari mothers, then daughters of GCC citizens, and finally girls born and residing in Qatar.

Applicants must meet academic and health criteria, including passing entrance exams, undergoing a personal interview, and submitting a certified medical report confirming their ability to participate in practical training sessions. Parents will also need to sign a consent form agreeing to the school’s technical learning environment and policies.

The Ministry noted that this school is part of its wider strategy to increase access to specialized education in underserved areas, responding directly to community feedback from Al Shamal. It will be the third technical school for girls in the country, joining existing institutions in Doha that focus on technical education and business studies.

This initiative supports Qatar National Vision 2030 by strengthening vocational pathways and promoting inclusive, knowledge-based growth. The MOEHE emphasized that it remains committed to empowering students—particularly young women—to contribute actively to national development.
